Professor Yves Gambier

Yves Gambier is professor and Head of the Centre for Translation and Interpreting (University of Turku, Finland). He holds a PhD in linguistics. He is a member of The Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (SKTL), The European Society of Translation Studies (EST): (President 1998-2004), the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation (ESIST): (President 2000-2002), and Chairman of the FIT Media Committee (1993-2002).

 

He has published over 140 articles and is editor/co-editor of Discours professionnels en francais (Berne: Peter Lang, 1998), Translating for the Media (Turku, 1998) (Multi)Media Translation. Concepts, Practices, and Research. (Amsterdam & Philadelphia: J.Benjamins, 1998), Special issue of The Translator "Screen Translation: perception and reception" (November 2003), and Special issue of Meta "La traduction audiovisuelle: un genre en expansion" (March 2004).
