MA in Writing

The MA in Writing is for students who are already experienced, as well as ambitious, practising writers, whether published or not. We aim to help you develop skills you can use professionally. We don’t believe that creativity can be taught, or that it is only fulfilled in the ‘marketplace’, but we do aim to help develop technical writing skills which you’ll find useful as a full-time writer or in related professions such as publishing, the media and teaching.

MA in Literary Translation Studies

This MA has both an intellectual and a vocational focus: it combines a strong grounding in translation theory with an emphasis on the practice of literary translation. The opportunity to benefit from the experience of the many practising literary translators in the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies is one of the degree’s unique offerings.

Graduate Diploma (not running in 2017-18)

Questions about the admissions process should go to Dr David Taylor.

We offer a Diploma designed for students who wish to read for a higher degree in English Literature, but who need further preparation before embarking upon the MA course. The Diploma acts as a ‘conversion’ course for the MA – provided that the student achieves the appropriate grade. The Diploma is a one-year course (two years part-time).
