The Department has 38 permanent academic staff, who research the histories of Africa, the Americas, Britain, China, Continental Europe and South Asia. Over 600 undergraduate students are enrolled in our programmes. Warwick History's MA students choose from several distinctive one-year degree programmes, and each year approximately 90 PhD students conduct research under the supervision of History staff. The Department received £1.3m of new research grants and contracts in 2007/08, and was ranked equal second in overall grade point average in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The Department hosts four research centres: the Centre for the History of Medicine, the Global History and Culture Centre, the Eighteenth Century Centre, and the Centre for the History of Innovation and Creativity (CHIC) based in Venice.
