Dr Claire Bloxsom

Dr Claire Bloxsom is an Assistant Professor in Counselling and Psychotherapy. She has been at CLL since September 2021 and works at the Centre half-time, as a tutor on the UKCP accredited MSc. in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Claire is an experienced teacher and lecturer and has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students in university contexts since 2004.
Claire is a UKCP registered Integrative Psychotherapist, an Associate Fellow and Chartered (academic) Psychologist of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). She has a BSc(Hons) in Psychology from University College London, a Cert. HE in Counselling (University of Leicester), a Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychodynamic Counselling, a Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, and an MSc (with Distinction) in Integrative Psychotherapy (Metanoia Institute/Middlesex University). Claire also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE, Nottingham Trent University) and a PhD in Psychology (University of Leicester). Claire has some further specialist training in sensorimotor psychotherapy (Level 1), and EMDR (fully trained: Levels 1-3).
Claire runs a part-time private clinical practice in Nottingham as an Integrative Psychotherapist alongside her work at the University of Warwick.
Claire is particularly interested in collaborative practice and in developing interdisciplinarity relationships in mental health and emotional wellbeing. She has a passion for integrating the landscape of theory and practice between psychology, psychiatry, allied health disciplines and relational integrative psychotherapy. Her areas of clinical interest as well as multidisciplinary approaches to mental health and well-being are creative and ‘artistic’ approaches to therapy, music and its potential for positive therapeutic impact , anxiety, depression and low mood, stigma (including self-stigma), how we construct, define, and evolve our ‘identity’, cultural diversity, men’s health (especially gay, bisexual, and queer men’s health), and developmental and relational trauma.
Claire has experience with and a passion for working with people living with HIV. Although most of her time is spent in training and clinical practice, she is currently working part-time on a piece of qualitative research exploring the lived experience of people living long term with HIV, as well as considering the impact COVID-19 has had on their lives.
Claire is on the advisory panel for Campaign Against Living Miserably, a National Suicide Prevention charity., specialising in men’s mental health.
