Site 10 - Roman Settlement

The first of the modern lakes to be created here, to the north east of the bridge, may have flooded an area of Roman settlement. During its construction sherds from Roman mortaria (bowls for grinding herbs etc.) and a fragment of a quernstone for milling flour were salvaged. Similar loose Roman finds were retrieved during the construction of the Jack Martin residences to the north of the lake but no Roman structures have been discovered here as yet.
