Aviva Women's Tour | Thursday 16 June

We are delighted to be partnering with Warwickshire County Council in hosting Stage Two of the Aviva Women’s Tour.
This stage covers 140 kilometres from Atherstone to Stratford-upon-Avon highlighting the county’s vast history and heritage, while also showcasing what the modern Warwickshire can offer as a place to live and work.
Having started from Atherstone in North Warwickshire, recognised for its hatting and mining heritage, the route passes famous stately homes such as Compton Verney and Upton House plus the world famous castles of Kenilworth and Warwick. Kenilworth will also host one of the two Chain Reaction Cycles Sprints, with the location of the second still to be confirmed.
The finish in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon comes in the year the town will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the death of its most famous inhabitant William Shakespeare.
Two designated Queen of the Mountains climbs will take place on the route, which includes over 1,700 metres of ascent. The first of those at Burton Dassett Hills Country Park while the second comes after the village of Ilmington with the ascent of Nebsworth Hill on the edge of the Cotswolds, with a 2.5-kilometre climb averaging 5%. Stage Two will also pass through Edge Hill battlefield, location of the first major battle of the English Civil War.
What's on on Campus
We are very much looking forward to seeing the Aviva women’s cycle tour pass through campus in its journey through the region for stage 2 of the national race. It's a fantastic opportunity to get involved in activities, relax and watch the race - supporting our aim of developing the most physically active campus community in the UK, with a world-class wellbeing and sporting experience - if you're able to travel to campus on foot or by bicycle.

Come along to watch
We wouldn't advise driving to campus for the event as campus is expected to be busy - but if you're able to walk or cycle to campus you will be able to get a great view of the race from the Piazza / Plaza or along the route.
The tour will pass through campus from Westwood Heath Road direction into campus by the Security gatehouse entrance and follow University Road, leaving at the bus interchange roundabout onto Gibbett Hill Road and before it heads towards Kenilworth.

Travelling to and around campus
The race starts in Atherstone and ends in Stratford-upon-Avon, so you may experience delays and diversions during the day. There will be rolling road blocks across Warwickshire to accommodate the race.
Keep a look out on the Warwickshire Council website for information on disruption in the wider area.
Car Parks, Buses and Taxis
On campus, there will be road closures in effect from 10.30am for approximately 30 minutes: Westwood Heath Road to Gibbet Hill Rd, including University Road and Library Road will be closed to all traffic. For a short time, this will affect access to all car parks (other than those on Westwood campus or in the Science Park), and the availability of taxis - who will not be able to drop off or pick up from campus during this time.
The bus operators serving campus are preparing altered routes and timetables for the morning, as the race passes through Kenilworth, Leamington and Stratford too. We're working closely with them to ensure as comprehensive a service as possible is provided.
Cyclists won't be able to use footpaths or cycle paths along the route, but the sustrans route to Kenilworth will be unaffected through Cryfield Village. If you're travelling on foot, be sure to leave enough time to make your way through the spectators.
More information will be published around public transport, access and diversions as they are confirmed. We would expect campus traffic to return to normal after 11.15am but there may be a knock-on effect in the local roads due to the race.
