The Princess Royal visits campus to celebrate our 50th Anniversary

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne visited campus on Tuesday 6 October to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the awarding of our Royal Charter of Incorporation.

During the visit, the Princess Royal met with a number of staff, students and alumni, including academics with research distinctions, founders of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy, Staff Contribution Awards winners, Sabbatical Officers and representatives of support and professional services.

Princess Anne unveiled the foundation stone for the new Teaching and Learning Building, inscribed with a message celebrating our 50th Anniversary, before joining Vice-Chancellor, Nigel Thrift and key University figures including WMG Chairman, Lord Bhattacharyya and SU President, Isaac Leigh to hear about Warwick's development and current activities.

Commenting on Princess Anne's visit, Nigel Thrift said:

We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal to the University of Warwick to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of receiving our Royal Charter of Incorporation from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Her Royal Highness’s visit to the University to unveil the foundation stone for our new Teaching and Learning building is a fitting occasion to reflect on our history and commemorate our most successful year.

As we look ahead to the next fifty years we are honoured that Her Royal Highness joined us today as we mark the beginning of a new chapter in Warwick’s success”.

To conclude the visit and to the mark our 50th Anniversary, Pro-Chancellor Sir George Cox invited the Princess Royal to unveil the foundation stone of our Teaching and Learning Building. Due to open in 2016, the new building will provide innovative teaching resources and social learning spaces.
