Policies and Procedures

This outlines your rights and responsibilities as a volunteer, so you know what you can expect from us and what we expect from you.
This sets out practices and procedures to ensure the good working of Warwick Volunteers and a shared understanding between permanent staff, student leaders and the student membership of Warwick Volunteers.
We are committed to ensuring that no volunteer is left ‘out of pocket’ as a result of volunteering. We will reimburse all reasonable expenses incurred by volunteers on a Warwick Volunteers project. We also check that external organisations who recruit through us pay expenses. However, if they don't pay expenses but offer something different which we know students like e.g. heritage and culture volunteering, we will still let you know about the opportunity but will be clear that expenses are not reimbursed so you can make a decision.
Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults is everyone’s responsibility; everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action. This document provides guidelines on what you should do to keep children and adults at risk safe from abuse and neglect.

All projects within Warwick Volunteers contain elements of risk for volunteers and service users alike. Both groups are vulnerable and protection needs to be in place in order to minimise risk and liability. Screening volunteers through criminal records checks is one of the initial ways in which Warwick Volunteers can begin to address issues regarding duty of care. All volunteers will receive appropriate guidance and training on working with their client group, so that they can protect themselves from potential risk/allegations.
