Women's Tour 2017

Women\The 2017 Women’s Cycle Tour will again travel through our region on Friday 9 June passing through campus heading along Westwood Heath Road, up Gibbet Hill Road and onto Kenilworth Road in the morning.

Stage 3 route map

By supporting the Tour, we want to help raise awareness of women’s participation in sport across Warwickshire and provide ways for our community to be physically active and healthy on a daily basis as part of our ambition to be the most active University campus in the UK.

This year, the route for Stage 3 will start in Atherstone and end in Leamington Spa.
We expect the race to come through campus between 10.30 - 11.00am on Friday 9th June. You can download the route map here and estimated race timings for Warwickshire.

PLEASE NOTE: The Parade in Leamington will be closed for most of the day, meaning bus diversions will be put in place. Stagecoach have confirmed that they will have staff near the top and bottom of the Parade to assist and direct bus passengers who have difficulty finding the temporary stops. Please make sure you set off earlier than you would usually – there will be delays to all travel while the race is in progress as it will affect roads all over the local region and check the information from the bus companies.

The race organisers have also provided a link to enable live time tracking to see the progress for viewing points or to plan their journeys around road closures. The website address is: http://womenstour.dimensiondata.com/#!/
The system will show key elements of the race – the first bike, the command car, 4 bikes covering the main parts of the peloton and the rear car signifying the end of the race.

Space on campus for parking will be limited but we are encouraging everyone to watch the race as it comes through Warwickshire on the day. If you are on campus, we will be encouraging people to gather along Gibbet Hill Road to watch the race fly by and look forward to seeing you there.

About the tour

Women\The Women’s Cycle Tour sees teams from around the world compete in a five day competition. Seventeen teams will be riding in the 2017 Women's Tour with all of the world's top 15 teams confirmed to be competing alongside British domestic teams WNT Pro Cycling and Drops. The trailer film gives you a flavour of the excitement and buzz for tour.

Alice Cobb Warwick 2016

Graduate Alice Cobb (pictured on the right), will be taking part in this year's race and is riding for Belgian team Lares-Waowdeals who are in their second year in the UCI professional ranks. Alice received a silver scholarship via Warwick Sport during her time at Warwick and we wish her the best of luck in the 2017 Women's Tour.

Information for staff and students

We are fully aware that the race will come through campus when many people, students and staff are taking and involved with exams. The University is working closely with Warwickshire County Council and the race organisers to minimise the disturbance to exams and liaising with departments to update them on timings and potential disruption.

Campus

With the race coming through campus between 10:30am and 11:00 am, there may be some delay with traffic (cars and public transport) leaving campus at that time as the rolling road block will prevent traffic coming onto Gibbet Hill Road. Traffic will not be prevented from entering campus.

Local area

There is also likely to be more disruption to roads around the Leamington area where the race will end and we will update information on this as it is confirmed.

The majority of the race will be managed by a rolling block but there will be more significant closures in Leamington Spa where Stage 3 will end. The Parade will be closed all day and diversions etc. will be in place for traffic. More information on road closures will be posted to the Warwickshire County Council information page here.

Please do bear this in mind when you are planning your journey to and from campus on 9th June and allow plenty of time to get to campus.

Public Transport

The bus companies will have diversions in place on the day of the race. Please allow extra time for your journey and check the information on diversions.
