In this year at Warwick:

Warwick received 20,345 applications for just 1,440 places. Places had been reduced after Warwick’s funding was cut by £1.4 million in 1980.
Arden House was founded.
The Arts Building was extended to house the Department of Psychology.
Vice-Chancellor, J.B.Butterworth was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Famous director Trevor Nunn was awarded an Honorary degree by Warwick in a ceremony held 16th July 1982.
The joint School of Classics took part in an excavation at Lunt Fort in a collaboration with Coventry City Council.

John Bellany's paintings have a distinctive Expressionist character, frequently referring to his own background and experiences. This crayon drawing and message was done in 1982 for his friend Dr Cyril Barrett, a Jesuit priest, philosophy lecturer at the University of Warwick, friend of many artists and one of the advocates and purchasers of works for the University Art Collection. Renowned for his hospitality and generosity, he donated this and several other works to the collection.

It is inscribed with the following: "If you're Irish come in to the parlour/ The Blarney Man /St Johns Wood via Dublin, Cork /a' the best."
