In this year at Warwick:

Warwick won a National Energy Efficiency Accreditation Scheme Award in recognition of the fact that it didn’t increase its spending on energy and water over six years.
John Simpson visited an exhibition of Robert Capa’s photographs at the Mead Gallery and gives a talk in the Arts Centre.
15th – 18th March: The England Women’s National Football Squad used the University as its base training camp.
The Piazza development was completed.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited to address the Victim Support conference being held at Warwick Arts Centre.
Honorary Graduates this year included the actor Alex Jennings, Terry Pratchett OBE and Nicholas (Nick) Scheele.
The Arts Centre celebrated its 25th Anniversary.
The Business School’s new Executive MBA Programme offices building opened.

Terry Frost, born in Leamington Spa, came to painting later on in his life. Upon the outbreak of war Frost was enlisted for service and was captured as a prisoner of war. It was whilst imprisoned that Frost began painting in a makeshift art school.

Upon his return to Britain he continued his new interest in painting and later attended Camberwell College. He later became one of Britain's leading abstract painters.

Great Britain introduced the minimum hourly wage rate for adults. It was £3.60 hour.
Lance Armstrong won his first Tour de France - he was stripped of all seven of his title wins in 2012 due to cheating.
A total eclipse of the sun is seen in cities of Europe and Asia.
On December 1, researchers from Britain, the United States and Japan announced that they had deciphered the entire sequence of the protein-coding genes of chromosome 22, mapping out its 33.4 million base pairs.
