Tokens in Hellenistic Athens

Some lead tokens have survived from Hellenistic Athens and these mainly come from the Great Drain of the Athenian Agora. Another major assemblage of tokens is localized very near the Prytaneion (Tholos), the seat of the councilors governing the city (polis) for a period of a lunar month. Hellenistic tokens are uniface and their devices are cryptic but obviously related to the state seal (cf. Agora IL624 and The Alpha Bank 513) and the public sphere in general (e.g. the Herms on the specimens Agora IL150 and IL868).
