Aristophanes' Lysistrata 2016

In 2016 we performed Lysistrata at the Warwick Arts Centre. Watch the performance below:

Some key questions to think about when watching the play:

  • Do you think an ancient audience would have taken Lysistrata’s message about sexual relations in ancient Greek society seriously? Why?
  • How can those people who are excluded from, or marginalised within, the democratic political process express their views?
  • How do the Athenians justify excluding women from public life? Is it possible to find ideas of respect and affection for women in Athenian culture or is it entirely misogynistic?
