Outline

This will be an in-depth exploration of some important works of Latin literature produced in Italy in the 14th-16th centuries. As well asopening up a new world of Latin writing, this module will improve your linguistic knowledge and reading ability. It will also extend your general knowledge of classical Latin literature, to look at the ways in which Renaissance authors sought to translate and imitate ancient literature and art.

Teaching
The course will be taught in weekly two-hour meetings which will involve the study of Renaissance texts, as well as exploration of their immediate historical and cultural context. A weekly 1-hour reading class will be devoted to the reading of the prescribed texts.
