Choosing modules: MAEL, MATTS and MAWL

* This information applies to MA in English Literature (MAEL), MA in Translation and Transcultural Studies (MATTS), and MA in World Literature (MAWL).

Choosing which modules you will take is a very important part of structuring your MA. Please consult the list of modules on offer for 2016-2017 and read the entry on Course Structure for your degree programme.

If you wish to seek advice about module choice, you should contact the Admissions Tutor or the Convenor of your MA programme.

Students are reminded that MA work is demanding, and that normally full-time students should not attempt more than two option modules in any one term in addition to the compulsory Critical Theory Core Module, and part-time students should not attempt more than one option module in addition to the compulsory Critical Theory Core Module.

A student is only permitted to select a maximum of two modules from another degree programme other than the one for which they are registered.

When appropriate, a student may make changes to their module selection in the spring term. Please discuss this with your Personal Tutor and inform the Postgraduate Programmes Officer.

Steps to choosing and registering for your modules:

By 1 September - students will need to complete a Provisional Module Selection Form. Please complete the correct form for your MA. You will be asked to indicate an alternative module for each term, as it may not be possible to accommodate every first choice. This is because sometimes we need to cap numbers on popular modules, and also because some modules do not run because they are undersubscribed. Note that not all modules run each academic year.

By the 3rd week of October - students will need to officially register for their modules online via EMR. The University will contact students directly with information on how to register.

Note that the EMR system will remain open to students only until the third week of October.
