Assessment Methods

 

First-year students: Two x 2,000-word essays, plus one x 2-hour 'seen paper' examination.

Honours level:  (ie, where the course is taken as an option by students not in their first year): either three x 3,000-word essays; or two x 3,000-words essays plus one 2-hour examination.  The choice depends on the degree you are following, and you should consult your personal tutor about it.

The first essay has to be on writers / work studied between October and the end of January, the second ditto between mid January and the end of the module.  The exam invites students to range more widely.
