Public Engagement

Work with Schools:

On 4th November 2014, I ran two workshops at Hampton School, London, as part of their ‘Gothic Enrichment Study Day’. The two workshops - 'Analysing Language in Gothic Texts' and 'Applying Theory to Gothic Literature' - were both based around Charlotte Perkins Gilman's 'The Yellow Wallpaper', and were attended by Year 11 students (both from Hampton and from other neighbouring schools) interested in progressing onto A-Level English Literature. I also acted as one of the judges for the creative writing portion of the day, in which students had to create their own Gothic texts in response to particular visual images.

In April and May 2012, I ran a series of revision sessions for top-set Year 11s at Langdon School, London, on the ‘Relationships’ cluster of AQA’s GCSE poetry anthology. This included sessions on poems by Andrew Marvell, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Charlotte Mew, Carol Ann Duffy, Simon Armitage, and James Fenton.
