English and Comparative Literary Studies at Warwick is one of the leading departments of its kind in the world. The research quality of our staff came top of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), and the QS World University Rankings places us in the top 20 English departments in the world.
We have established strengths in most areas of literary studies, across poetry, theatre, and the novel, from the medieval period to the present day, including British, European, American, and other world literatures -- especially Asian, African, South American and Caribbean literature – as well as renowned expertise in literary and critical theory, and in literary translation studies.
A thriving research community
Our postgraduate community is a vibrant and flourishing one, with around 110 students currently taking courses at masters level or pursuing doctoral research. Postgraduates in our department are involved in a wide range of intellectual and cultural activities, both within the university and at regional and national level, and run an annual conference that showcases our range of postgraduate research.
