Climate Change Plays

There are several lists of climate change plays on the Internet. The aim of this page is to develop lists organised by region.

The UK Climate Change Plays in Order of First Production Date

Caryl Churchill (1994). The Skriker (Nick Hern Books). First performed at the Cottesloe, National Theatre, 20th January 1994. Revived in the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester, 1st July 2015.

Clare Pollard (2004). The Weather (London: Faber & Faber). First performed at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, London, on 1st October 2004.

John Godber (2007). ‘Crown Prince’, in Godber Plays 4 (London: Methuen Drama, 2009).

Steve Waters (2009). The Contingency Plan (London: Nick Hern Books). First performed at the Bush Theatre, London, on 22nd April 2009.

Nick Payne (2012). If There is I haven’t Found it Yet (New York: Faber & Faber). This play premiered at the Bush Theatre in London on 17th October 2009. Its first US-based performance was in New York City at the Laura Pels Theatre on 20th September 2012.

Mike Bartlett (2010). Earthquakes in London (London: Methuen Drama). Earthquakes was first performed in the Cottesloe Theatre at the National Theatre on 4th August 2010.

Moira Buffini, Matt Charman, Penelope Skinner and Jack Thorne (2011). Greenland (London, Faber & Faber). First presented on the Lyttleton stage of the National Theatre, London on 5th February 2011.

Richard Bean (2011). The Heretic (London: Oberon Modern Plays). First performed at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs, London, on 4th February 2011.

Simon Stephens (2011). ‘Wastwater’ in Wastwater and T5 (London: Methuen Drama). First performed at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs, London, 31st March 2011.

Duncan MacMillan (2011). Lungs (London: Oberon Books). First performed at the Studio Theatre, Washington DC USA on 28th September 2011, and in London at the Crucible Studio Theatre, Sheffield, as part of The Roundabout Season.
