Entry requirements for undergraduate study

Advanced or Higher Level qualifications
Film and Literature ABB 34 points AAB to include either English Literature or English Language-Literature (combined)
French with Film Studies ABB 34 points including 6 in Higher Level French A level or Higher Level qualifications in French
German with Film Studies ABB 34 points including 6 in Higher level German A level or Higher Level qualifications in German
Italian with Film Studies ABB 34 points A level/Higher Level Italian not required. Candidates normally offer a foreign language at A/Advanced Higher/IB Higher Level, but if this is not possible, other evidence of competence in the study of foreign languages will be considered

We welcome applications from students with other recognised qualifications. Applicants with BTEC qualifications are considered on an individual basis, taking into account both (a) the degree of focus on close analysis of texts, and (b) GCSE qualification. Our typical BTEC offers are as follows:

Film Studies:

  • BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (equivalent to 3 A-Levels) – DDM overall
  • BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (equivalent to 2 A-Levels) plus 1 A-Level – DD in the BTEC plus grade B in the A-Level OR DM in the BTEC plus grade A in the A-Level
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A-Level) plus 2 A-Levels – Distinction in the BTEC plus grades A,B in two A-Levels OR Merit in the BTEC plus grades AA in two A-Levels.

Film and Literature

  • BTEC Level 3 National Diploma (equivalent to 2 A Levels) plus 1 A Level – DD in the BTEC plus grade B in A-Level English Literature/ English Language and Literature (combined) OR DM in the BTEC plus grade A in A Level English Literature/ English Language and Literature (combined)
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate (equivalent to 1 A Level) plus 2 A Levels – Distinction in the BTEC plus grades A,B in two A Levels including English Literature/ English Language and Literature (combined) OR Merit in the BTEC plus grades AA in two A Levels including English Literature/ English Language and Literature (combined)

Access course entry requirements: Access to Higher Education Diploma (QAA recognised) including appropriate subjects with distinction grades in level 3 units. Substantial study of literature is essential.

*Offers normally exclude General Studies and Critical Thinking. Critical Thinking is normally accepted to AS Level only.
