My daughter was born at home (planned!) We had an excellent NHS experience with midwives who really encouraged me to do my research about home birth before deciding (given my relatively advanced age). The actual birth was quite relaxed, with a midwife popping in/ringing thought the day to check how labour was progressing & then 2 midwives being in attendance for the last couple of hours. My husband didn't cut the cord (we were happy for them to do that!) but he was there throughout & I couldn't have done it without him!
