Case Study: Francis Day

Who was Francis Day? He is a servant of the EEIC in the 1670s and 1680s of whom we know little. Francis Day was in Bombay for 9 years (without leave). He was praised by the Council for his ability and industry, he was mostly involved in military and security issues. We know that from at the beginning of 1681 he was on leave in Surat (with Henry Smiths) but we ignore the reason.

Whom did he write to? Who did he obey? Where did he travel? The IOR G Series allows us to reconstruct his position and movements, his network of correspondents and travel. This is an example for 1680-81.
