Summary

Level:

You are a complete beginner, knowing virtually nothing of the language.

Main Objectives:

We begin with the Greek alphabet. You will become familiar with the letters, and learn to read and write. Your competence in a range of simple, everyday language tasks will be encouraged and enhanced. The course will provide a basic knowledge of the structure and vocabulary of the language, developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

Teaching:

1 x 2 hour class per week plus some independent learning.

Course Description

Based on a step-by-step approach, the course is divided into areas which focus on practical, useful and manageable areas of language.

You will be encouraged to participate actively during lessons.

Aspects of Greek culture are shared and enjoyed.

You will have access to online resources for a more independent learning.

Homework tasks will be set each week to consolidate what you have learnt in class.

  • ordering food and drinks;
  • meeting people;
  • shopping;
  • asking your way and getting around - directions, travel and transport;
  • booking rooms and reserving tickets;
  • time and the calendar;
  • holidays.

Grammar

  • nouns – gender, number and case;
  • verbs – present tense;
  • question forms;
  • numbers;
  • prepositions;
  • agreement of adjectives;
  • personal pronouns;
  • some idiomatic usage.

  • listening, speaking, reading and writing.
