About

I am currently a Marie Curie Fellow in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. My research project “Prisoners of war between the Bourbon nations and the United Kingdom during the 18th Century: ways of life and humanity in misfortune” (“PriWa”) is supervised by Prof. Katherine Astbury.

Research Interests

I’m really interested in Military social History during the 18th Century up to the Napoleonic Era. I consider that it was a very interesting century of changes taking into account the fact that Military History is not only to know how the battles were fought or organised, but to know what a soldier thought and felt and why at any given time of his campaign, or even how the civilians considered soldiers depending on the different contexts. I also draw attention to a soldier’s day-to-day context and how his military life affects to his beloved beings and family affairs. That’s why prisoners of war drew powerfully my attention and I have published some works on the subject. I was rewarded with the award “Padre Patac” in 2007 for a study on the War of the Spanish Succession.

Research Groups

Since 2016 I have been a member of the Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar «Cultura, Espaço e Memória» (CITCEM; University of Porto). Previously I took part in the international project “Lendűlet” Holy Crown, at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, led by Dr. Géza Pálffy (2015-2017) and I was a researcher in the one led by Francisco Erice Sebares and Jorge Uría (University of Oviedo) to develop the Biographical Dictionary of Spanish Parlamentarians, supported by the Spanish Government (2006-2011).

Teaching

I have lectured on History and Spanish Civilization at the International University Isabel I (Spain, 2017), the University Eötvös Loránd in Budapest (2014-2015), the Spanish National Distance Learning University (UNED) in Asturias (Spain, 2010-2013) and the University of Oviedo (Spain, 2004-2008). I have also been invited to participate in different summer and additional courses and supervised some postgraduate works.
