BA in Modern Languages: 3 Languages Degree (R900)

The below course structure is indicative. Modules on offer change year on year, dependent on staff research interests and availability.

Year One

Core language
 

One of the following First Languages:

 

French Language, German Language, Italian Language or Spanish Language (post A-level)

 

Plus two of the following Second Languages

 

Language 2: French, German, Italian, Spanish (any level) Must be an FR, IT, GE or HP-coded module for language 2.

Language 3: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish (beginner’s or post-GCSE level)

Year Two/Three

  Continuation of First Language:

  Continuation of Second and Third Languages:
  Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian or Spanish (NB Second language must come from French, German, Hispanic or Italian sections, coded FR, GE, HP or IT).

Year Two/Three - Spent Abroad

  Final Year French Modules

  SMLC LN modules including LN400 Dissertation or LN401 Independent Research Project subject to the approval of the module convenor.
  Translation and Transcultural modules
  *Exceptional case for 15 credits external module may be allowed subject to the approval of the SMLC Director of Undergraduate Studies.
