Mixing it up: an advanced level introduction to Mixed Methods Research

This two day intensive workshop will provide students with an introduction to the principles of designing, and undertaking, a mixed methods research project in the health and social sciences. Day one will cover the principles of mixed methods research (including design, sampling and data collection), whilst day two will focus on mixed methods data analysis techniques, with a particular focus on data transformation methods.
The workshops will be application-focused and interspersed with hands-on practical activities, including an opportunity for students to work with raw data and explore design and analysis techniques using their own research ideas.

Pre-requisits
We request that any attending students have, as a minimum, a basic understanding of, and some experience with, BOTH qualitative and quantitative research methods. As these are advanced training workshops, we will assume a prior knowledge of the principles of these two methods.
We also request that students attend with an idea for a mixed methods research project in mind. This does not need to be a well-developed research proposal (we will work on the ideas within the workshops), but will facilitate learning by allowing students to apply the techniques taught in the workshops to their own research ideas.
Practical aspects
This is a two day event. Each day participants will be provided with drinks and lunch.
Students attending from other Universities may apply for one of a limited number of travel/accommodation bursaries. Please indicate your desire to do so within the booking form.
Please bring a highlighter pen and flip chart markers if you have them.
