How does the department define a research-led environment?

prospective undergraduate page

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/prospective/undergrad/

  • " Warwick Chemistry has a fantastic team of academics, who are world leading in their research (iChemistry), and education. They act as teachers, mentors and personal advisers to both undergraduate and postgraduate students with great enthusiasm"

research at warwick page

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/research

  • Research is divided into 4 areas:

  1. Chemical Biology
  2. Materials Chemistry
  3. Physical Chemistry - Chemical Physics
  4. Synthetic Chemistry
  5. Computational and Theoretical Chemistry
  • Note: although prospective undergraduate are directed to this page, links from it lead to information for postgraduates e.g. funding for PhD study

introductory page for prospective students

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/prospective/undergrad

  • "Warwick Chemistry has an excellent international reputation for innovative chemistry research. The latest developments are incorporated into our courses by a dedicated staff who are committed to educate at the highest level"
  • "The contemporary nature of the curriculum is maintained and enhanced by the research activity of the whole staff and by the Department's extensive links with the chemical and pharmaceutical industries"

prospective medical chemistry student page

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/prospective/undergrad/medchem/

  • "These programmes reflect Departmental interests ranging from the synthesis of new compounds with clinical potential to the study of DNA/ drug interactions using state-of-the-art spectroscopic techniques (e.g. Fourier Transfer Mass Spectrometry) and molecular modelling"

prospective biomedical chemistry (BSc only) Page

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/prospective/undergrad/biomedical/

  • "The programme reflects the Department's research interest in biological aspects of Chemistry, including enzymology, glycobiology, natural product biosynthesis, biological mass spectrometry, bio-inorganic chemistry, and computational chemistry"

laboratory modules leading to research modules

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/current/undergrad/laboratory

  • Students in their First, Second and Third years take Laboratory modules which teach them skills for research:
  1. CH115 Chemistry Laboratory and Assesed work
  2. CH222 Chemistry Laboratory
  3. CH3C6 Extended Laboratory Work
  4. CH3C4 Laboratory work
  • These four modules (there are two above to choose from in the third year) lead on to research projects involving Laboratory skills in the 4th year:
  1. CH401 Research Project and Methodology
  2. CH410 Research Project for MChem Industrial Training

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry

  • On the opening page there is a news item about £2.1 m for an upgrade of the Chemistry Teaching Laboratories
  • Guardian Rankings for Warwick as the 4th best Chemistry department in the UK are mentioned

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/prospective/undergrad

  • "The MChem degree aims to produce graduates able to function as independent self-motivated researchers"

www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/chemistry/prospective/undergrad/chemistry

  • "The MChem degree is more suitable for those whose interests develop towards a research career:...aims to develop the knowledge and skills required by those who have postgraduate study and and employment in Chemistry as their career goals"
  • "All students take a research project worth half the credit for the year. This project is undertaken within one of the Department's research groups, thereby training the student in the latest research methods using advanced instrumentation"
