Tree Carols - Late Night Concert

Under the guidance of BAFTA award-winning writer and librettist Martin Riley and acclaimed composer Joe Cutler, five talented student poets from the University of Warwick, Hannah Cooperwaite, Poppy Akers, Tom Stewart, Ella Tebay and Eve Ryan, have immersed themselves in nocturnal landscapes and dark thoughts to produce colourful, entertaining and thought-provoking new works for voice and string quartet, in close collaboration with composers from Birmingham Conservatoire. They will be performed by the Coull Quartet and two wonderful young singers: Sophie Pullen and Warwick’s very own Tom Stevenson. Entry to this special event is FREE, but limited therefore please complete our online booking form in order to be added to the guest list. This project has been supported by IATL.

Earlier the same evening there is a fantastic opportunity to hear one of today's great operatic and lieder singers in the Helen Martin Studio at 7.15pm. The internationally-renowned baritone Roderick Williams is a guest of the Coull Quartet in an exciting evening of nocturnally-inspired music and poetry. The concert will feature the world premiere of 'Tree Carols', a beautiful setting of five powerful and evocative poems by the distinguished poet Fiona Sampson, scored for baritone and string quartet by one of Britain’s leading composers Sally Beamish, and commissioned by the University of Warwick. The concert will also include Barber’s ‘Dover Beach’, works by Gorecki and Bloch, and Borodin’s ever-popular Second Quartet.

A few tickets for the 7.15pm concert are still available from Warwick Arts Centre Box Office: 02476 524 524 or www.warwickartscentre.co.uk/whats-on/2014/coull-quartet-nocturne
