Executive Summary

Phase 1 funded by IATL has been completed with a performed reading of Passing On with professional actors and puppeteers and post show discussions. The performances at Warwick Arts Centre 7th June 2011 have sold out and had a verbatim script prepared by Mike Kenny (with co-funding from Open-space Learning in Real World Contexts) and a life size puppet commissioned from Little Angel Theatre.

This request for funding for Phase 2 will be for the preparation of digital resources with facilitation notes for distance learning for students studying social work, medicine, and nursing. The performance and post show discussion have been filmed so that there is the potential to develop digital teaching resources which would make it available for use by other health and social care students and professionals.

What will be the benefits to students?

The Phase 2 digital material can be available through the Intranet as part of courses such as Human Lifespan, Learning from Lives, Health Psychology, Clinical Ethics and Inter-professional Learning Pathways. The research findings and learning points will accompany the digital resources so that the students understand that the ethno-drama was based on rigorous research with bereaved relatives and health care professionals. The students will be able to cognitively and emotionally engage with the topic and have the opportunity to explore issues further through the inter-professional and interdisciplinary discussion held in class , through facilitated web based discussion, or as the basis for assignments.
