Thinking creatively about Horizon 2020 and making a successful bid in 2014

Aims

1. to bring together researchers from across different specialisms and departments to consider how their research interests might be used to address the themes and priorities in Horizon 2020.

2. to facilitate researchers to think more creatively about their research and how it links to other disciplines across the University.

3. to consider how different research interests could be combined to find creative ways to answer the H2020 funding call in January 2014

4. to discuss how contacts and networks might be shared to fill identified gaps in possible proposed projects

5. to provide a starting point for a successful application

Audience

This workshop will involve some specifically selected experts who will be on hand to share their European funding bid lessons, but the primary target audiences are:
- Researchers with early stage ideas for a research bid
- Researchers with a track record of developing research bids
- Those who are looking to develop a small, current project into a large, collaborative bid
- Researchers with some European research connections, but are unsure how to develop these connections into a bid
- Those who are unsure how their research ideas feed into the various H2020 streams
- Researchers who would like to develop cross-disciplinary projects, but don’t know how to make such connections with other departments
- Researchers with a current project who would like to develop an element of this project into a new project
- Researchers looking for further funding opportunities for a current large project

Pre workshop– attendees will be asked to register (online) indicating their research areas (current and of future interest) and their experience with EU funding
Attendees will be grouped according to H2020 streams/topic areas (tbc)
Pips network to identify potential experts to facilitate “Ideas Lab”, preferably from each faculty

• Introduction to H2020: general background, different funding streams available and the importance of cross disciplinary consortiums

Horizon 2020 presents a new and unconventional way of organising and approaching research proposals and partnerships. In order to make the most of the huge amount of funding available, Warwick researchers must look to new interdisciplinary collaborations within Warwick and internationally. Horizon 202 will focus on three prioritised areas namely:
1. Excellent Science
2. Industrial Leadership
3. Societal Challenges.

• Ideas Lab – break out sessions (attendees grouped according to topic areas, each group to be facilitated by an “expert”)
