Associate Dean for Clinical Research to leave Warwick Medical School

Associate Dean and Professor of Obstetrics Steve Thornton has announced he will leave his post at Warwick Medical School to take up the role of Dean at Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in Exeter.

Professor Thornton, who currently holds a joint post with University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, will leave Warwick in late summer.

He joined the University of Warwick in 1998 and became Associate Dean at Warwick Medical School in 2004. Professor Thornton leads the Preterm Labour Research Group, based at UHCW, which undertakes scientific and clinical research with the ultimate aim of reducing prematurity related mortality and illness.

Dean of Warwick Medical School Professor Peter Winstanley said: “I have only worked with Steve for a short time since taking up my new role as Dean at Warwick Medical School, but I know he will be greatly missed here. We wish him every success in his future career.”

Professor Thornton said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my 11 years at the Trust and Warwick Medical School but the opportunity to be Dean at Peninsula was one I felt I had to take.

“I wish all my colleagues all the best in the future and can only hope that I receive as warm a welcome in Exeter as I have experienced here in Coventry.”
