Mission

metaphase

  • To develop tools and techniques for quantification of cellular components, their localisation and modifications, and use the information gained to define rate equations for all biochemical reactions in the cell
  • To understand the key mechanisms by which proteins localize to distinct cellular locations (e.g. by diffusion and capture or through transport involving molecular motors), and address how cellular structures are generated (e.g. from pre-existing templates or by dynamically self organising)
  • To validate and test mechanistic and biophysical models of cellular processes through an iterative statistical model fitting and experimental perturbation approach
  • To ascertain the mechanisms of self-correction that deal with the errors that stochastic assembly of cellular structures must produce, and explain cellular phenomena through physical theory, chemical kinetics and computational simulation
