Karuna Sampath is a Professor of Biomedicine, University of Warwick. Following her doctoral training at Indiana State University, USA with Gary Stuart, she did brief post-doctoral stints with Christopher Wright at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA (1995-1996), and Vladimir Korzh at the Institute of Molecular Agrobiology, Singapore (1997-1998). She was a visiting scientist at EMBL (host: Anne Ephrussi) in 1999, and started her independent programme in 2000 as a fellow at the Institute of Molecular Agrobiology, Singapore. She was a group leader at Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory, National University of Singapore from 2002-2013, and subsequently joined Warwick Medical School.

Research in the Sampath laboratory focusses on the fundamental mechanisms underlying embryonic differentiation and patterning. We are especially interested in RNA regulation of signalling pathways and germline development, primarily using zebrafish as a paradigm. A recent area of interest is how RNA elements are recognised by RNA binding protein complexes, and assemble into RNP granules in eggs and embryonic progenitors cells. We use a combination of computational and experimental approaches, including structural biology, epitranscriptomics, gene editing, live imaging and proteomics. Our work is funded by the BBSRC and the Leverhulme Trust.

Jonathan Millar is Head of the Division of Biomedical Cell Biology at Warwick Medical School. Following a PhD with Enrique Rozengurt at CRUK in London and four years as a Lucille Markey fellow in the laboratory of Professor Paul Russell at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, Jonathan established his own laboratory in 1994 at the MRC National Institute for Medical Research. He moved to Warwick in 2006 to take up a Professorship in Cell Biology where his laboratory is supported by a programme grant from the MRC.

Andrew McAinsh is a Professor of Cell Biology and a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator. Following a PhD at Cambridge with Steve Jackson and a postdoc at MIT with Peter Sorger, where he was Jane Coffin Childs Fellow, he established his independent laboratory in 2005 at the Marie Curie Research Institute. He moved to Warwick Medical School in 2009 and is also supported by grants from the BBSRC and MRC.

Anne Straube is an Associate Professor in Mechanochemical Cell Biology and a Lister Research Prize Fellow. She joined the lab of Gero Steinberg at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich for a PhD and then moved as a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Emmy Noether programme of the German Science Foundation to the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology in Edinburgh. In 2007, she started her lab at the Marie Curie Research Institute before moving to the University of Warwick in 2009.

David Roper is a Reader in Structural Biology in the School of Life Sciences and leads the UK Bacterial Cell Wall Biosynthesis Network (UK-BaCWAN). He completed his PhD at the University of Leicester in 1990 and became an MRC Career Development Fellow in 1996 at the University of York. His work on combating anti-microbial resistance is supported by the MRC.
