Improving outcomes for patients with fractures of the proximal femur

The overall aim of the project was to improve outcomes for patients with fractures of the proximal femur.

The specific aims were to:

  • Identify and evaluate patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) which address the outcome priorities of patients with fractures of the proximal femur
  • Test the use of PROMs to measure outcomes and drive improvement in service delivery within the framework of the National Hip Fracture Audit
  • Determine whether existing instruments measure outcomes relevant to older people and to test these measurement instruments against recognised quality criteria
  • Determine whether these instruments address the particular outcome priorities of patients sustaining a fracture of the proximal femur and their carers
