As a member of Warwick Evidence, Rachel is involved in undertaking reviews and evidence syntheses on a range of health care interventions for the NIHR Evidence Synthesis Programme, for a range of policy makers including NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and the Department of Health. Rachel's main research interest is in information science, particularly in relation to health technology assessment and systematic reviewing.
Rachel graduated from the University of Brighton with an MA in Information Studies in 2000. From 2001 to 2002, she worked at the Open University Library as an Assistant Librarian (and latterly as a Subject Information Specialist) for the Science, Health and Social Welfare team. She became a chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) in 2002. Rachel joined Warwick Medical School in 2003 as lead information specialist for two web-based collections, 'NHS Evidence - emergency & urgent care' and 'NHS Evidence - diabetes'. In April 2011, Rachel joined the Warwick Evidence team as an information specialist. In this role, Rachel develops and undertakes searches to identify a range of evidence types (e.g. clinical and epidemiological evidence, cost-effectiveness evaluations, quality of life data, other model inputs) and has also gained experience of screening, quality appraisal and data extraction. In addition to her core work, Rachel has worked on a variety of other reviews with researchers at Warwick Medical School (including reviews of complex interventions, reviews of qualitative research and rapid reviews). In 2016, she chaired the InterTASC Information Specialists Sub Group (ISSG).
