Module leader Principles and Practice of Orthodontics modules.

Registered Specialist in Orthodontics.

Fellow of The Higher Education Academy.

Richard established and runs a multi-surgery Specialist Orthodontic Practice in Leamington Spa and has previously held an Associate Specialist hospital post in provision of Cleft Lip and Palate care. He was granted a Winston Churchill Travel Fellowship in 1994 in recognition of his research work into the Management of patients with Cleft Lip and Palate. This research took him to treatment centres in Scandinavia, North America and the Far East.

He is an examiner for: Membership in Orthodontics of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; MJDF examination of The Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK) of The Royal College of Surgeons of England; MFDS of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh; the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE); NEBDN, the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses and an Assessor for FFGDP(UK) the Fellowship of The Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK).

Richard is a member of the Editorial Board of Primary Dental Care, the official journal of The Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK), The Royal College of Surgeons of England; the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dentistry, and a former member of the Core Group of MFGDP examiners. He is Associate Clinical Professor at Warwick University Medical School and lectures to various University undergraduate, VDP and postgraduate groups both in the UK and abroad. He is Postgraduate Dental tutor at Warwick, has run MGDS study groups, and is a Research Advisor for the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK). He has published in journals on orthodontics and orthodontic education and is currently undertaking a PhD based on education of the orthodontic team. Due to his contribution to dental education over many years, he is a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy.

He is a member of the Orthodontic Specialists Group of The British Orthodontic Society, The American Association of Orthodontists, The World Federation of Orthodontists, British Lingual Orthodontic Society, British Dental Association, Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK), British Society of General Dental Practitioners,a member of the Midland Orthodontic Society and is a past President. Chairman of Warwickshire Orthodontic Managed Clinical Network.

Richard has an ongoing commitment to providing the highest quality training and is ideally qualified to be involved in the provision of integrated education for the whole of the Dental team. He originally conceptualised and developed the MSc in Orthodontics course at The University of Warwick, which he continues to evolve and improve. His level of expertise with self-ligation orthodontic mechanics is recognised by being a contracted speaker for Ormco on the Damon System. His Specialist Practice has achieved the British Dental Association Good Practice award and Investors in People recognition as a mark of it's excellence and full commitment to continuing education, training and development.
