Biography

Tim qualified from St George's Hospital Medical School in 1987 and then trained in hospital medicine at Teesside and Gwent before entering general practice.

As a house officer in 1988 he co-authored a high-impact paper about the new cattle disease Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, which helped trigger changes to British food industry policy. As a general practitioner he worked initially in rural North Yorkshire and developed an interest in complexity theory applied to diabetes care and health informatics.

Having moved to Warwick in 2004, he developed his interest in the use of primary care data to identify individuals at risk of cardiovascular disease. As part of this research he recently completed the e-Nudge trial, a RCT of a software tool designed to facilitate cardiovascular disease prevention in primary care. This work led on to other projects involving the detection of undiagnosed diabetes using health care data. Tim is currently working on the problem of detecting abdominal aortic aneurysm in primary care.
