Sitting the UCAT
All applicants must take the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) or if appropriate, the UCATSEN. UCAT testing is available throughout the world. We advise you to register for the test at the earliest available opportunity. This way, if you have a problem on the day, for example ill health, you will be able to rearrange your test date before the deadline. Please note that neither UCAT nor Warwick Medical School will allow exemptions or change scores/cut-offs on the basis of illness or mitigating circumstances. Applicants who present themselves to test are declaring themselves fit to take the test.
UCAT have created a new video aimed at helping candidates to prepare for the UCAT. Applicants can view the video through UCAT's social media channels (YoutubeLink opens in a new window / VimeoLink opens in a new window) or on the Homepage of their website.
If you have any technical issues while sitting UCAT, please contact the UCAT office as soon as possible for advice. In certain circumstances a retest will be arranged. If UCAT would have offered, but cannot facilitate a retest, please contact us before the end of the UCAT testing cycle (28th September 2023), providing a copy of your correspondence with UCAT.
We will not know the range of UCAT scores until we receive them in November so will be unable to comment on whether an applicant's score meets the threshold score to be invited to our Selection Centre.
Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments
Applicants requiring reasonable adjustments can often take the UCATSEN (or one of the alternative versions UCATSA, UCATSENSA or UCATSEN50) or by UCAT making adjustments to meet particular examination needs. Please carefully check the UCAT website for the process for requesting access arrangements; the policy can be found here: Access Arrangements | UCAT Consortium. We strongly recommend that you make early contact to discuss any reasonable adjustments rather than towards the end of the testing cycle: applying for reasonable adjustments too late in the testing cycle to allow for accommodation by UCAT will not be accepted as a reason to be exempted from the test. You MUST obtain approval for taking an alternative version of the test prior to booking your test.
If UCAT approve but are not able to provide your required reasonable adjustments, please contact us directly (mbchb.admissions@warwick.ac.uk) before the last booking day in the UCAT testing cycle (21st September 2023) for advice, providing a copy of your correspondence with UCAT. We will not consider any requests received without confirmation from UCAT or after the deadline.
UCAT: Required scores
The total UCAT score required to secure a place at our Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) varies year on year and is dependent on the UCAT performance of applicants to Warwick Medical School. For example, a downward shift in overall UCAT score could result in a lower UCAT score needed to achieve a place at MMI compared to previous years. Please bear this in mind when making your decision to apply.
The UCAT Consortium have published score details for 2022 test takers (see Test Statistics | UCAT Consortium) and data for 2023 test takers will be available in November 2023.
For entry to WMS, you need to achieve at least the overall mean score of ALL test-takers on the Verbal Reasoning sub-test. This is likely to be in the region of 600 points for 2024 entry.
We do not have an absolute minimum total UCAT score; scores are combined with previous academic achievements in our shortlisting process.
SITUATIONAL JUDGEMENT TEST (SJT) BANDS
We do not use SJT bands as part of our admissions process.
Minimum UCAT scores to have reached Warwick Selection centres
The lowest UCAT score for an applicant with an undergraduate degree who was invited to Selection Centre was 2,580 for 2023 entry, 2,660 for 2022 entry, 2,670 for 2021 entry. Candidates and universities will receive a total score for the sum of all four subtests (Verbal Reasoning / Decision Making / Quantitative Reasoning / Abstract Reasoning).
Contextualisation of UCAT scores
Applicants who are a recent care-leaver or refugee/asylum seeker into the UK will be eligible for a reduction of 20 points in the minimum Verbal Reasoning (VR) cut-off score and an uplift of 60 points for their total score. “Recent” means in the five years prior to the UCAS application deadline. Evidence, including of dates, must be provided before the UCAS deadline. Other circumstances will not be considered for contextualisation.
