Rommel Granja is from Ecuador, where he obtained his BSc degree in Biotechnology Engineering. His final year project was “Software developing to calculate basic parameters to design bioreactors, by using Visual Basic 6.0”. After that, he obtained his MEng degree (Cum Laude distinction) at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso – Chile, in the School of Biochemical Engineering. His MEng research was related to the evaluation and optimization of the production of a recombinant lipase using Pischia pastoris as a host, in function of the oxygen transfer rate and the specific growth rate.

He worked at the University of Américas, Quito – Ecuador, from 2012 to 2014 in the Faculty of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences.

His current PhD research at the University of Warwick, under the supervision of Professor Tim Bugg, involves finding and characterization of new copper enzymes from bacteria, which can be used as catalyst for transformation of lignin related compounds.
