Project Overview

The main objective of IDENTITY is to enhance international and European collaborations in research, entrepreneurial development and innovation within the area of multimedia and biometric forensics.

To this end, IDENTITY has the following specific objectives:

1. To promote knowledge transfer among research institutions and private companies about methodologies for identification within a forensic context. Two main lines of identification are considered, imaging device identification for multimedia forensics, and people identification, for biometric forensics.

2. To enhance research programs by incorporating experience of private companies and police investigators from real identification scenarios and forensic cases.

3. To disseminate knowledge and technologies internationally to ensure a wide impact and a continuing fostering of the multimedia forensics and biometric forensics communities.

Methodology

IDENTITY follows three methodological approaches in order to create impact:

1. Research

a. Qualitative methodology to collect feedback about using biometrics and signal processing methods in practical scenarios by police forensic investigators, and in commercial product development by industrial partners.
b. Literature review of current technologies for multimedia forensics and people identification through face, fingerprint, iris and gait recognition, as well as multimodal and soft biometrics.
c. Creation of new methods and techniques for multimedia forensics and people identification through secondments.

2. Knowledge transfer
a. Secondments based on the exchange of knowledge and collaborations on research development, transfer of research outputs to practical cases and development of industrial products. Secondments will be an integral part for the support and training of Early Stage Researchers (ESRs).
b. Networking for fostering cross-fertilisation of knowledge of the multimedia forensics and biometrics forensics among academia, industry and users in the law enforcement and security sectors.
c. Development of special interest and focus groups based on the different research milestones to reach a multidisciplinary approach in all aspects of the project.
3. Communication

a. Publication of project results through several channels including scientific journals, books, conferences, key national bodies, and communication activities.
b. Organization of international and inter-consortium events including summer schools, workshops and industrial exhibitions.

Time Frame

The project started on January 1, 2016 and lasted 4 years.
