C8 SciFest and C11 MCE joint staff training

C8 and C11 refer to two closely synchronised activities that take place at Joensuu in Finland in association with SciFest - see the project timetable as set out below. C8 is a 'Blended mobility of young people' activity for which the participants are drawn from SciFest. It is not itself a funded activity, in that SciFest itself takes care of the organisation of the C8 learning activity to which CONSTRUIT! contributes. To provide support for the project members who attend SciFest to organise and run C8, there is an associated 'Short-term joint staff training event' C11. The main purpose of C11 is 'familiarisation with revised MC resources' that have been under development through the implementation activity O1/A3 indicated in the project timetable. C8 will take the form of a workshop-style activity that can put our current ideas re making construals to the test with school pupils (we're targeting age 10-15 and 15+). The workshop activities are scheduled for Thursday-Friday April 23rd-24th, and will be followed by teacher-oriented sessions using the same resources on Saturday April 25th. At C11, we shall then review the matters arising in the light of feedback from C8 on Sunday and Monday 26-27th April. Topical issues for discussion at C11 relate to the current status and further development of the CONSTRUIT online course, how C8 can contribute to the evaluation activity O2/A1, Virtual Workshops, dissemination via IGGY and the follow-up activity C14, as indicated in the timetable below.

There is funding available for representatives from all partners to attend C11 - see p71 of the project proposal for details. We shall have good representation from Warwick, Finland and Slovakia. Those who are unable to attend C11 may be able to participate usefully by Skype - and could also possibly play some role through monitoring activities at SciFest at a distance on Thursday and/or Friday and/or Saturday 23-25 (which is technically feasible with our current environment). Piet Kommers will not be attending C11 but has had significant input in planning for C8 - all are encouraged to contribute in a similar way after consulting the further details of the proposed CONSTRUIT! contribution to SciFest.

Because of the intense work that has been done by the UEF participants (most notably Ilkka) in connection with the organisation of SciFest, C11 will be scheduled as a series of three meetings on Saturday, Sunday and Monday 25-27th April, each involving different project team members from UEF. An agenda for C11 can be found here.
