SAFETY INSTRUCTION - ISSUE 3 September 2013
PORTABLE EQUIPMENT TAKEN OFF SITE
1. Definition
Portable Equipment is defined as ANY equipment that is easily transportable by car or van. Computers and peripherals (printers etc.) are included in the definition but equipment requiring hard connections to services are not covered.
2. Procedure
a. Before any equipment is removed from the department its transportation will be authorised by the Divisional Head using the template below.
b. Once authorisation has been obtained the necassary arrangements will be made to ensure the equipment is fully insured during travel and at the final destination. Any additional premium or excess payable on a claim is the liability of the person removing the equipment.
c. The equipment shall be checked visually before and after transportation to guard against damage during transit.
d. Electrical equipment will be checked to ascertain when retesting is necessary. If the retest date is before the return date the equipment will be tested BEFORE leaving the department. This also applies to computer equipment which is visually inspected.
e. Computers with installed software with a departmental site licenced will either have the software removed BEFORE leaving the Department or application will be made to the software suppliers to extend the licence. This is especially important for home use.
