Refrigeration for Food Storage in Remote Locations Using Biomass

Funding Body: EPSRC

Value: £325k (Warwick component)

A project coordinated by Aston University aims to integrate the cultivation, conversion and power generation from biomass in remote, arid parts of India. This project covers:

● Selection and trials of biofuel crops.

● Irrigation using foul water.

● Generation of electricity for local applications and the use of waste heat for cooking, food processing and ice-making.

● A full environmental and social impact assessment.

The main Warwick contribution is to provide an ice-making machine using reject heat from the engine.
