Rotating-Disk Facility

Two pictures of the rotating-disk facility of our group. This apparatus is used to study the laminar-turbulent transition of fully three-dimensional flows. Such flows exist in similar form, for instance, on highly swept wings of aeroplanes.

The rotating disk is inside the tank shown in the first photograph. The tank is filled with water. We use hot-film anemometry for our measurements. The second photograph displays a view into the tank.
