The title of my project is "The role of plants and rhizosphere microorganisms in the mobilization of organic phosphate”.
So far I have looked at genetic diversity in OSR for the release of enzymes such as acid phosphatase, and conducted targeted amplicon sequencing on OSR roots However this currently is just looking at the bacterial community composition and diversity.
In the coming year I will be running a trial, to grow a OSR diversity set under high and low P conditions and performing a number of experiments on the trial, such as; 16s/18s rRNA targeted amplicon sequencing, soil P-mobilising-enzyme (PME) analysis via novel soil enzyme assays, as well as a host of other soil characteristic tests.
The project is related a grant issued to my supervisor, Gary Bending, on rhizodeposition and is funded through BBSRC via the CIRC.
