EPSRC Symposium Workshop - Interacting particle systems, growth models and random matrices

Monday 19 - Friday 23 March 2012

Organisers: Neil O’Connell (Warwick), Janosch Ortmann (Warwick) and Jon Warren (Warwick)

Many remarkable stochastic processes have been discovered in this diverse field with deep connections to representation theory and integrable systems, and which have also given rise to new solvable models in statistical physics. These include Dyson’s Brownian motion, Airy and Pearcey processes, Schur processes and the Brownian carousel, to name a few. The aim of this workshop will be to bring together internationally leading researchers working on various aspects of this diverse field to interact, exchange ideas and explore new directions.

Confirmed participants include: Mark Adler, Jinho Baik, Philippe Biane, Alex Bloemendal, Alexei Borodin, Philippe Bougerol, Sylvie Corteel, Reda Chhaibi, Benoit Collins, Ivan Corwin, Manon Defosseux, Patrik Ferrari, Sasha Gnedin, Vadim Gorin, Friedrich Götze, Alan Hammond, Stéphanie Jacquot, Kurt Johansson, Makoto Katori, Pierre-Loic Méliot, Anthony Metcalfe, Pierre van Moerbeke, Hirofumi Osada, Leonid Petrov, Daniel Remenik, Brian Rider, Tomohiro Sasamoto, Gregory Schehr, Timo Seppäläinen, Piotr Sniady, Herbert Spohn, Hideki Tanemura, Craig Tracy, Benedek Valkó, Balint Virag, Oleg Zaboronski.

Accommodation will be arranged on Campus by the Mathematics Research Centre (MRC).

Social arrangements

Throughout the workshop coffee, lunch and tea will be served in the Mathematics Institute Common Room, and also a buffet dinner on the Monday and Thursday evenings. On the Wednesday afternoon there will be an excursion by coach to Stratford-upon-Avon, including a play (Comedy of Errors) at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (limited availability, for tickets contact the MRC).

Some practical details

Here is advice on how to get to Warwick University from the main UK airports.

The nearest railway station to the University is Coventry Railway Station, approximately 2.5 miles away.

Here is a map of the Warwick campus (where the Mathematics Department is in the Zeeman Building, numbered 37).

Here is some information on local buses (U1 and U2 connect Coventry-University-Leamington Spa; 12 connects Coventry-University-Kenilworth-Leamington Spa). Kenilworth is 4 miles from the University. Leamington Spa is 8 miles from the University, and has its own railway station.

The cost of parking on Campus is £3 per day.

Lectures will be in room B3.03 in the Zeeman Building (which is suitable for blackboard, OHP or computer presentations).
