Measurability, Ergodic Theory and Combinatorics

8-12 July 2019

There are a number of deep and fruitful connections between combinatorics on one side and limits of discrete structures, descriptive set theory, orbit equivalence, measured group theory and ergodic theory on the other side. The aim of this exploratory workshop is to overview such known interactions and identify new promising directions.

Some ideas for Wednesday afternoon:

hiking trip to Kenilworth, with a possible visit to the Kenilworth Castle (starting at 1:30pm sharp from the entrance to the Mathematics institute)
working (NB: tea is served in the common room 3-4pm)

Registration

The registration fee is £125 (including lunches Mon-Fri, and dinners Mon-Thurs) or £50 (including lunches only). It is waived for invited speakers, Warwick participants, and mathematicians who are retired or are on a career break. Accommodation

If you are interested in booking accommodation on the campus, please contact call Alison Humphries as early as possible (as hotels on the campus are usually in very high demand that time of year). Alternatively, you can book accommodation yourself (with Coventry, Kenilworth, and Leamington Spa being the most convenient towns for getting to the campus by public transport).

Funding

Thanks to an LMS grant, we have some funding for

research students (of any nationality) that study in the UK, and
one participant currently holding a full-time academic position at any country listed here.

In order to apply, please email your CV and up to 3 of your best papers to Oleg Pikhurko by 1 April 2019. If you do not have any preprints, then instead please arrange that one recommendation letter (e.g. by your PhD advisor) is emailed directly to Oleg Pikhurko by 1 April 2019. Funding decisions will be made shortly after the deadline.

Venue

All talks, coffee breaks and lunches will be in the Zeeman Building that hosts Warwick's Mathematics Institute. Directions to the Institute can be found here.
