The continuous life cycle of the mitochondrial genome - should we be grateful to our mothers and pleased that our fathers didn't intervene?

Tuesday 17 February

Justin's work concentrates on how the mitochondrial genome is transferred from the eggs of one generation to those of the next to ensure its maternal only transmission. He uses a range of reproductive technologies to study this process including in vitro fertilisation and somatic cell nuclear transfer (cloning) and analyse the outcomes in embryonic stem cells and offspring.
