Economic aspects of perinatal and paediatric healthcare: A journey through research developments

Strategies to improve the health and broader well-being of pregnant women, mothers and children should be underpinned by a strong evidence base. Health economics evidence has made an important contribution towards policy and practice in perinatal and paediatric healthcare in recent years.

However, significant gaps remain in our understanding of the production, distribution and evaluation of health and healthcare for pregnant women, mothers and children where health economics evidence could usefully contribute to an efficient and equitable allocation of scarce resources.

In this inaugural lecture, Professor Stavros Petrou will provide an overview of methodological and applied research developments in this area. He will outline his own research contributions, drawing upon evidence from a range of collaborative studies with colleagues at Warwick, Oxford and further afield, and highlight plans for future research in this area.
