Scientists and medics needed to complete survey on career progression barriers

Scientists and medics are urgently needed to complete a survey, coordinated by the Royal Society, to understand the career experiences, perceptions and ambitions of all career scientists.

The Athena Survey of Science, Engineering and Technology survey (ASSET 2006) is open to all UK based scientists and medics and runs until 20 October.

Its findings will provide a firm basis to understand and address differences between men and women’s career progression experiences, perceptions and ambitions.

Those replying to the survey could be in industry, public or private sector research, or research and development organisations, in education including higher and further education, the NHS and other public sector employment.

The survey is open to those working in corporate policy, in management functions, and in operational, manufacturing, field and service positions, as well as those in teaching research and clinical activities.

The career experiences and views of survey participants will make a difference. The higher the response rate, the better the data to inform science policy and debate.

The survey will take between 20 and 30 minutes to complete and will cover current employment, career history, professional activities, career expectations and experiences and perceptions of working environment.
